Kim Kardashian is a single woman once again after nearly eight years married to Ye, formerly known as Kanye West.
A judge in Los Angeles County, California, on Wednesday granted Kim Kardashian’s request to be ruled legally single, NBC News has confirmed.
Kardashian, 41, appeared via video conference for the hearing, while West, 44, did not attend.
This comes after she filed the request three months ago.
Her estranged husband, Kanye West, initially opposed the request, but said in a statement Tuesday that, “I’ve asked my team to expedite the dissolution of my marriage to Kim so I can put my entire attention to our beautiful children.”
The former couple must still resolve the division of property and custody of their four children.
The tow have been in a contentious divorce battle for one year.
His attorney disputed Kardashian’s criticism of his social media posts. “The statement that ‘Kanye has been putting a lot of misinformation…on social media’ is double hearsay,” Ye’s attorney wrote in an objection Friday that was obtained by E! News. “Kim claims she read something online allegedly by Kanye and characterizes the posts in her declaration as misinformation.”
West previously challenged his estranged wife’s request to be declared legally single, but said in a statement Tuesday that, “I’ve asked my team to expedite the dissolution of my marriage to Kim so I can put my entire attention to our beautiful children.”
Kardashian’s court filing continued, “I believe that the Court terminating our marital status will help Kanye to accept that our marital relationship is over and to move forward on a better path which will assist us in peacefully co-parenting our children.”
Since Kardashian first filed for divorce, Ye has spoken out against the TikTok account of his oldest daughter, North, prompting Kardashian to respond through a public Instagram story.
Last week, Kardashian said social media posts made by Ye have caused her “emotional distress,” according to court documents. She asked the judge to restore her status to that of a single person to “begin the healing process” and “move forward.”
Their marriage originally landed in crisis at the height of West’s public outbursts in 2020 after he launched a controversial bid for president of the United States and divulged deeply personal details about his family and marriage on the campaign trail and on Twitter. At the time, Kardashian addressed his bipolar disorder diagnosis in a rare public statement, asking fans for “compassion” and acknowledging their “complicated and painful” situation.
Kardashian has been dating “SNL” star Pete Davidson in recent months, while West has been newly linked to influencer Chaney Jones.
On Wednesday, the rapper posted a video for his new song Eazy, apparently showing an animated version of Davidson being kidnapped and buried.
At the divorce hearing, a lawyer for Ye pushed for an agreement from Kardashian to waive any marital privilege she might have with a subsequent spouse.
Kardashian and her lawyer called the move “unprecedented” and it was denied by the judge.
