In a sequence of events that started with their breakup followed by legal orders of protection, the ongoing negotiations over child custody between Mel Gibson and his ex-partner Oksana Grigorieva have now evolved into a rapidly escalating racial scandal.
Leaked transcripts of surreptitiously recorded conversations, believed to have taken place during domestic disputes involving Gibson and Grigorieva, have surfaced in the public domain.
These recordings allegedly capture multiple instances where the Hollywood actor engaged in threatening, misogynistic, and racially insensitive outbursts directed towards the mother of his infant daughter.
Among the shocking remarks attributed to the 54-year-old Gibson is the use of derogatory terms such as “bitch” and “whore” towards his partner, coupled with menacing declarations like, “I am going to come and burn the house down.
But you will blow me first.”
He also reportedly referred to her as a “psycho cunt” and a “fucking fake”.
However, it was a specific racial slur that has sparked the most widespread outrage.
Addressing Grigorieva, who is 40 years old, Gibson allegedly uttered, “You look like a pig in heat.
If you get raped by a group of individuals, it will be your own fault.”
The incendiary comments, denounced by various organizations including the NAACP, the Anti-Defamation League, and civil rights activist Jesse Jackson, were disclosed by the entertainment news site Radaronline.
The website further stated that Grigorieva possesses additional abusive emails from Gibson which have yet to be made public.
Legal representatives for both parties convened in a Los Angeles court this week to address the matter.
The tapes, recorded earlier this year, are now in possession of the presiding judge, complicating the already contentious child custody proceedings.
Amidst the dispute over how confidential information from a sealed case was leaked, Gibson faces potential repercussions on his professional standing.
Once a prominent figure in Hollywood, the actor, who recently finalized his divorce from long-time wife Robyn, is a member of a conservative Catholic sect.
Despite his former stature in the industry, Gibson has been notably absent from mainstream cinema since 2006 when he made anti-Semitic remarks towards police officers during a DUI arrest, stating, “The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world,” and later referring to a female officer as “Sugartits”.
