In a recent biography titled Jackie: Public, Private, Secret by J. Randy Taraborrelli, it has been unveiled that Jackie Kennedy was not pleased with her son John F. Kennedy Jr.’s short-lived involvement with Madonna during the 1980s.
The exclusive excerpt from People dated July 18 sheds light on Jackie’s feelings towards the iconic singer.
According to J. Randy, one of the main reasons for Jackie’s disapproval of Madonna was her marital status.
The former First Lady found it unsettling that Madonna engaged in a fling while being married.
Moreover, Jackie was puzzled by Madonna’s relentless pursuit of attention, which was contrary to her own discreet approach to fame.
Another aspect that added to Jackie’s disapproval was Madonna’s high-profile marriage to Sean Penn at that time, despite their separation.
Jackie, who had always steered clear of paparazzi, found it challenging to comprehend Madonna’s deliberate interactions with the media.
Surprisingly, Jackie did attend Madonna’s performances upon JFK Jr.’s insistence.
However, she went to great lengths to conceal her identity by donning a complete disguise.
A former colleague of Jackie’s at Doubleday revealed an anecdote where Jackie wore a red wig as a disguise and sought validation from her companion, who acknowledged the uncanny resemblance to Jackie Onassis in a red wig.
Even though Jackie appreciated Madonna’s talent in the show, she steadfastly refused to meet the singer backstage.
According to J. Randy, Jackie believed that interacting with Madonna publicly would inadvertently endorse the relationship between Madonna and JFK Jr., a scenario she was unwilling to validate through photographs.
