Chloë Grace Moretz Reveals Body-Shaming Ordeal With Male Costar

At the youthful age of 20, Chloë Grace Moretz has dived into numerous films, TV series, music videos, and theater performances.

However, amidst her successful career, she has encountered what many perceive as Hollywood’s prevalent sexism.

In a recent interview for Variety’s “Power of Young Hollywood” edition, the actress candidly shared some distressing experiences of misogyny she has encountered while on set.

Recalling a particularly hurtful incident, Moretz disclosed that a male costar who played her love interest made a disparaging remark about her size, stating he would never date her in real life because she was “too big.”

This insensitive comment deeply affected Moretz, leading her to tears on set.

She confided in her brother, who was enraged by the actor’s hurtful words.

The body-shaming incident unfolded when Moretz was just 15 years old, while her male costar was significantly older, aged around 23 to 25.

Despite the emotional turmoil caused by the incident, Moretz had to compose herself and continue working alongside him, portraying a romantic relationship, which she found incredibly challenging.

Reflecting on the ordeal, she emphasized the presence of malevolent individuals in the industry and highlighted the need to forgive while not forgetting such hurtful encounters.

In addition to the body-shaming incident, Moretz recounted another distressing encounter with a different male costar who attempted to undermine her by spreading false rumors on set.

The actor fabricated issues to discredit her professionalism and tarnish her reputation, a situation Moretz found bewildering and unprofessional.

She expressed frustration at the unfair treatment she faced, emphasizing that despite her leading role, all actors should be regarded as equals.

Moretz lamented that these instances of sexism are part of her daily challenges in the industry.

Despite the adversity, she emphasized the importance of standing firm and giving her best in auditions, recognizing that not every opportunity may align with her.

She acknowledged the progress women have made in securing roles both in front of and behind the camera, citing a notable increase in female filmmakers contributing to the industry.

Having previously condemned the inherent sexism in the entertainment realm, Moretz addressed a recent controversy at the Cannes Film Festival involving promotional materials for her upcoming film.

She denounced the posters for allegedly fat-shaming by depicting two contrasting Snow White characters and insinuating that the thinner one was more beautiful.

Moretz distanced herself from the misleading campaign and stressed the empowering message of the film for young women.

In conclusion, Moretz’s revelations shed light on the challenges women face in the entertainment industry, urging for continued progress towards gender equality and fair treatment for all individuals involved in the creative process.
