Actress Rosamund Pike revealed an unsettling experience from her past, sharing that she was once advised to undress to her undergarments during an audition for the movie “Die Another Day,” a role she would eventually secure.
In a candid discussion during an “Audible Session” promoting an audio rendition of Jane Austen’s classic novel “Sense & Sensibility,” which Pike herself narrated, she recounted the incident.
Pike recollected, “At my initial audition for a James Bond film, I distinctly recall the instructions given to me to shed my dress and present myself in nothing but my underwear.”
Reflecting on that moment, Pike boldly shared, “Despite the pressure, I made a firm decision that if they wished to see me in such a vulnerable state, it must be in exchange for the role itself.”
She continued, expressing her determination by stating, “I simply refused to disrobe at the audition, knowing that footage of me in that state could potentially circulate widely for judgment across Los Angeles.”
For the audition, Pike opted for a sentimental choice, donning her grandmother’s elegant silk gown, appropriate for the formal occasion.
However, she was met with disapproval from the costume designer who suggested, “While that is a lovely dress, it doesn’t align with the typical style seen in Bond movies.”
The designer then presented Pike with more revealing options, indicating the preferred attire with the words, “‘In Bond films, we tend to wear outfits more akin to this,’ as she displayed three scant pieces of fabric.”
Feeling somewhat out of her element, Pike confessed, “I quickly realized I was navigating an entirely unfamiliar environment and felt significantly outmatched.”
Despite the pressure to conform, Pike stood her ground, opting to wear a glimmering sheath that matched the prevailing aesthetic standards
