In a recent turn of events, a former cast member of the popular show “Glee” found herself in legal trouble as she was taken into custody on charges related to domestic battery.

The incident unfolded in West Virginia, where Naya Rivera, who rose to fame through her role in “Glee,” was apprehended for allegedly assaulting her spouse, Ryan Dorsey, in his hometown of Chesapeake.

After the altercation, Rivera, aged 30, was formally charged with misdemeanor domestic battery and faced a hearing at the Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

Following the proceedings, she was granted release on bond pending further legal developments.

Footage from the courtroom depicted Rivera clad in a grey hooded sweatshirt, restrained with handcuffs, as she responded to inquiries posed by the presiding judge, as reported by CNN affiliate WCHS.

The sequence of events leading to the arrest commenced when law enforcement officers were dispatched to a residence in Chesapeake following reports of a domestic disturbance.

Dorsey informed the authorities that Rivera had struck him on the head and lower lip during a stroll with their child along a nearby street.

Providing substantiating evidence, Dorsey presented a video captured on a mobile device that documented the alleged assault, prompting the intervention of the authorities culminating in Rivera’s detention.

During her brief court appearance, Rivera indicated her intention to engage legal representation.

The offense of domestic battery carries a potential sentence of up to one year of imprisonment and a monetary penalty of $500, according to legal records.

Efforts to obtain comments from Rivera’s spokesperson by CNN have thus far remained unanswered.

The marriage between Rivera and Dorsey was solemnized in 2014 in Mexico.

Dorsey, also a professional actor, has featured in productions such as “Southland” and the comedic series “You’re the Worst.”
