Akon’s Guilty Plea for Incident Involving Fan at 2007 Concert

Akon, the renowned artist, will be juggling his time between entertaining crowds on stage and advocating against violence and gang activities for the coming year.

The singer, known for hits like “Troublemaker,” made a court appearance in Fishkill, New York, on Wednesday morning to admit guilt for throwing a teenage fan off the stage during a concert in the summer of 2007, as reported by the Poughkeepsie Journal.

In an agreement, Akon pleaded guilty to second-degree harassment, a violation, instead of facing a more severe charge related to endangering the welfare of a child.

Initially, in December 2007, Akon had pleaded not guilty to the accusations stemming from the incident where he tossed a 15-year-old fan named Anthony C. Smith from the stage at Dutchess Stadium on June 3, 2007, during the annual KFEST summer concert.

The act was captured on video by onlooking fans.

As part of the resolution, the singer was fined $350 and mandated to complete 65 hours of community service focused on anti-gang and anti-violence initiatives before June.

Additionally, there is a stipulation that if Akon gets arrested within the next year, he will need to appear again in the Fishkill court.

During the court session, Akon, dressed in a stylish gray suit with a powder-blue shirt and tie, sat four rows behind Smith and his parents.

Following the conclusion of the matter, Smith’s father approached Akon in the courtroom.

The teen, upon leaving the courthouse, extended his hand to the singer, expressing gratitude.

Akon, in turn, repeatedly apologized to the boy while being interrupted by the father, William Smith, who raised concerns about his son being thrown off the stage.

With a smile, Akon sought to communicate with the teen, acknowledging the lack of previous dialogue.

Although the singer refrained from providing comments to the press about the case, his attorney, Andrea Zellan, distributed a prepared statement as they exited the court premises.
