A veteran in the acting world, Amanda Seyfried shared some unsettling moments from her lengthy career.
Known for her roles in popular films like Jennifer’s Body, Mean Girls, and more recently, The Dropout, she opened up to Porter magazine about uncomfortable incidents that occurred before the #MeToo movement reshaped Hollywood.
Although Seyfried mentioned coming out of the pre-#MeToo era relatively unscathed, she recalled a particular incident from her youth that now appears different through adult eyes.
Reflecting on a situation at 19 where she found herself roaming without underwear, Seyfried questioned herself, “How could I have allowed that at 19?” She attributed her compliance to her desire not to cause any disturbance and her wish to safeguard her job.
While not explicitly identifying the production involved, this is not the first instance where Seyfried has alluded to discomfort from her past in the entertainment industry.
Her revelations to Porter follow her previous disclosures about the unwelcome aftermath of her role in Mean Girls, portraying Karen, a character who humorously claimed to forecast weather patterns with her chest.
In a memorable scene from the 2004 movie, Karen famously stated, “It’s 68 degrees, and there’s a 30 percent chance that it’s already raining,” as rain visibly descended on her, evoking a mix of humor and discomfort.
Seyfried disclosed to Marie Claire the repugnant reactions she received from male viewers who associated her with the weather gag post-viewing.
Expressing her revulsion, she explained, “I always felt really grossed out by that.
I was like 18 years old.
It was just gross.”
Since her breakout role in Mean Girls, Seyfried has crafted a notable and esteemed path in both film and television.
She conveyed to Porter a newfound sense of self-assurance in her identity and craft.
Expressing her contentment, Seyfried remarked, “There’s a level of respect around me that I’ve never experienced before.” She emphasized that this elevated regard is not tied to her fame, accolades, or recent projects but stems from a deep understanding of herself at 36 years old.
