Angelina Jolie recently delved into the challenges she faced during her marriage to Brad Pitt.
In an interview with The Guardian, the actress candidly discussed her divorce and the ongoing custody battle with Pitt, shedding light on her humanitarian efforts and the launch of a new book in partnership with Amnesty International titled Know Your Rights and Claim Them.
Jolie also recounted her unsettling encounter with Harvey Weinstein, citing his alleged s**ual misconduct during their work on the 1998 movie Playing by Heart as “beyond inappropriate.”
Recalling the distressing experience, Jolie shared, “It was a situation I needed to distance myself from.
I made a conscious effort to caution others about him.
I vividly remember informing Jonny, my first spouse, who was very supportive, to alert others – never leave women alone with him.
Although I was offered a role in The Aviator, I declined due to his involvement.
Subsequently, I refrained from any association or collaboration with him.
It was particularly tough for me when Brad became involved with him.”
Jolie disclosed that Pitt had engaged Weinstein to serve as a producer on the film Killing Them Softly in 2012, despite being aware of the s**ual misconduct allegations.
“We had disagreements over it.
Naturally, it was painful,” she expressed to the publication, revealing that she purposely avoided promotional activities for the movie.
Previously, Pitt had publicly condemned Weinstein.
During a 2019 CNN interview, he recounted how he confronted the disgraced producer on behalf of his then-partner Gwyneth Paltrow, after Weinstein allegedly made unwelcome advances towards her during a work encounter for the film Emma in 1996.
“I simply wanted to prevent any further incidents, especially since she [Paltrow] was set to feature in two films.
I believe the noteworthy aspect is that Hollywood, and workplaces in general, are undergoing a necessary and overdue recalibration of the dynamics between men and women,” Pitt remarked, emphasizing the positive shift occurring.
In her conversation with The Guardian, Jolie hinted at the underlying reasons behind her divorce, although she refrained from discussing the specifics of the ongoing custody dispute.
“I’m not one to make decisions lightly, especially the choices I had to face.
It was an arduous process for me to reach a point where separation from the father of my children was necessary,” she shared with the outlet.
