Boris Johnson’s Bold Attempt to Keep Prince Harry in the Royal Fold

In a surprising revelation, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has shared that he urged Prince Harry to reconsider his decision to step away from royal duties.

This intriguing detail comes from Johnson’s forthcoming memoir, *Unleashed*, where he recounts their encounter on what turned out to be Harry’s last official day as a working royal back in January 2020.

During this pivotal meeting, which took place behind closed doors at the U.K.-Africa investment summit in London, Johnson humorously describes the effort he made to convince Harry to stay.

In a preview published by the Daily Mail, he reflects on the encounter, calling it a “manly pep talk” that ultimately felt “totally hopeless.” It’s a candid glimpse into the challenges faced by the royal family during a time of significant transition.

The conversation reportedly lasted about 20 minutes, giving them ample time to discuss Harry’s future.

Johnson took the opportunity to commend Harry for his initiatives, particularly the Invictus Games, and praised Meghan Markle for her advocacy in promoting women’s education in developing nations.

A friend who was close to the situation mentioned that the atmosphere was quite intimate, noting, “It was a man-to-man conversation.

They were totally alone.

But Harry wasn’t for turning — he was unpersuadable by that point.” This paints a picture of Harry’s determination to forge his own path, despite external pressures.

By that stage, Prince Harry had already expressed his deep sorrow regarding his and Meghan’s choice to step back from royal life.

A poignant moment came just a day before their meeting when he addressed supporters of his Sentebale charity, stating that the decision was not made lightly.

Harry articulated the emotional weight of the situation, sharing, “It brings me great sadness that it has come to this.

The decision that I have made for my wife and I to step back is not one I made lightly.” His words conveyed a sense of regret but also an unwavering commitment to his decision.

He further explained that the culmination of months of discussions and years of challenges led him to this point.

“I know I haven’t always gotten it right,” he admitted, emphasizing that there truly was no other option available to them.

On January 8, 2020, Harry and Meghan publicly announced their plans to withdraw from royal duties and pursue financial independence.

This announcement sent shockwaves through the British media and royal circles, highlighting the couple’s desire for a different life.

After the announcement, Meghan returned to Canada to be with their then-eight-month-old son, Archie, while Harry remained in the U.K. for crucial family discussions at Sandringham Estate.

It was a turbulent time, filled with uncertainty and intense scrutiny from the public.

Fast forward to today, Harry, now 40, continues to engage actively with charitable endeavors.

Recently, he spent time in New York attending various events linked to causes he cares deeply about.

As he prepares to head back to London for the WellChild charity’s annual awards on September 30, it’s clear that his commitment to philanthropy remains unwavering.
