Yankee legend Joe DiMaggio’s struggle with his failed marriage to Marilyn Monroe was further compounded by a surgical mishap that left him impotent, as disclosed in a new book penned by his close confidant, Dr. Rock Positano.
Dr. Positano, an expert from the renowned Hospital for Special Surgery recognized for his non-invasive methods in treating foot ailments, formed a bond with DiMaggio back in 1990 when he successfully treated the baseball great for agonizing bone spurs.
Despite DiMaggio’s reputation for being cantankerous and aloof, he developed a camaraderie with Dr. Positano, who shares Italian heritage with him.
Over shared meals and journeys, DiMaggio opened up about his deepest feelings to Positano and their circle known as the “Bat Pack.”
Rock Positano has now relayed his cherished memories of DiMaggio to his attorney sibling, John Positano, who compiled them in a book titled “Dark Icon,” a heartfelt homage that has recently been submitted to publishers.

“It was as if the heavens themselves were at war above us.”
The revelation of Monroe’s purported infertility weighed heavily on their relationship.
“Marilyn was deeply affected by her feminine struggles…her inability to conceive,” DiMaggio confided to his close friend.
DiMaggio pointed fingers at the Kennedys for Monroe’s tragic fate.
“Those Kennedys, pretentious scoundrels, that’s all they are,” Joe expressed.
“And my buddy, Frank Sinatra, was in cahoots with them.”
“The whole Kennedy clan were heartbreakers,” Joe asserted.
“And they always got away with it.”
DiMaggio’s prospects of finding love anew were shattered following a surgery to address a ruptured aneurysm in his abdomen, during which the surgeon inadvertently severed the nerve linked to his reproductive organs.
Once proud of his virility, Joe lamented to a gathering one evening that his once potent prowess had been rendered futile.
“It now just lays there, staring back at me.
It remains motionless.”
Despite being romantically linked to several women and harboring affections for model Elle Macpherson and producer Jean Doumanian, DiMaggio never ventured into marriage again.
In his final moments in 1999,
