Elvis Presley’s Refusal to Intimate with Priscilla Post Daughter Lisa Marie’s Birth

Elvis Presley and his former spouse, Priscilla, experienced a significant shift in their marriage dynamics following the birth of their sole child, the late Lisa Marie Presley, in 1968.

The renowned musician and his ex-partner shared a “passionate” and exhilarating relationship until the arrival of their daughter.

Nevertheless, everything altered soon after due to profound sentiments harbored by Elvis.

Regrettably for Priscilla, this change meant that he could no longer engage in intimate relations with her, leading both individuals to seek fulfillment elsewhere before eventually parting ways.

In her memoir titled “Elvis and Me,” Priscilla, aged 77, disclosed, “He had mentioned to me before we were married that he had never been able to make love to a woman who had a child.”

Upon Lisa Marie’s birth, Elvis encountered difficulties in perceiving Priscilla solely as his wife rather than just a mother figure.

Expressing her emotional turmoil, Priscilla articulated, “I [was] beginning to doubt my own sexuality as a woman.

My physical and emotional needs remained unmet.”

Subsequently, she engaged in a brief romance with her dance instructor followed by an affair with her karate mentor, Mike Stone.

After six years of marriage, Priscilla and Elvis separated, finalizing their divorce in 1973 on amicable terms.

Elvis’s close confidant, Sonny West, shed light on the challenges the King faced in his relationship with Priscilla post Lisa Marie’s birth, stating, “It didn’t come easy for Elvis to be a committed husband.

Elvis perceived her primarily as a mother and only secondarily as a wife, grappling with intimacy issues.”

West attributed these struggles to Elvis’s deep-seated reverence for his mother, Gladys, from whom he received substantial love and attention during his formative years.

To Elvis, engaging in intimate acts with a mother figure was inconceivable due to the pedestal upon which he placed all mothers.

This week marked what would have been the 55th birthday of Lisa Marie Presley, the offspring of Elvis and Priscilla.

Tragically, Lisa Marie passed away at the age of 54 in January 2023 following a cardiac arrest, leaving behind three children: actress Riley Keough, Finley Lockwood, and Harper Lockwood.

Additionally, her son Benjamin succumbed to death at 27 years old in 2020.
