Emilia Clarke Receives MBE and Shares Emotional Journey After Surviving Brain Haemorrhage

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, expressed feeling unprepared to resume a normal life following a near-fatal brain haemorrhage at the age of 25.

The 37-year-old actress was recently honored with an MBE alongside her mother Jenny for their joint initiative, SameYou, a charity dedicated to aiding in the recovery of individuals with brain injuries, which they established after Emilia’s two life-threatening incidents.

The first brain haemorrhage occurred in 2011, shortly after the debut season of Game of Thrones.

SameYou is primarily focused on assisting patients post-hospitalization in their rehabilitation process.

This prestigious award acknowledges Emilia Clarke’s commitment to supporting individuals with brain injuries.

Reflecting on her ordeal, Clarke emphasized the challenges she faced upon being discharged from the hospital, feeling isolated and overwhelmed by the prospect of navigating life independently.

The stark shift from constant medical care to sudden self-reliance proved to be a daunting experience for both her and her family.

During the recent honors ceremony at Windsor Castle, Clarke humorously recalled anticipating her mother to request Prince William’s involvement in their charity’s board of trustees.

She acknowledged the demanding nature of managing a charity, labeling it as one of her most formidable undertakings, characterized by numerous uphill battles that often seem insurmountable.

Despite the arduous journey, receiving the prestigious recognition provided Clarke with a renewed sense of purpose and motivation, infusing her efforts with a fresh wave of enthusiasm.

Additionally, she confirmed her upcoming portrayal of Constance Lloyd in the film An Ideal Wife, centered around Oscar Wilde’s spouse.

Emilia Clarke stood alongside notable figures like Sir Tim Martin and Sir Sajid Javid as they were honored by the Prince of Wales at Windsor Castle.

Among the other recipients were Labour MP Dame Siobhain McDonagh, recognized for her contributions to political and public service, director Betsy Gregory, awarded an OBE for her services to dance, and Lydia Otter, appointed an MBE for her dedication to individuals with autism and their families in Oxfordshire.
