Hugh Jackman Recounts Embarrassing Audition Mishap for Sandra Bullock Movie

In a recent revelation, Hugh Jackman shared details of an awkward audition encounter he had with Sandra Bullock earlier in his career.

The renowned actor, known for his role in “The Greatest Showman,” was vying for the part of FBI agent Eric Matthews, the love interest of Sandra Bullock’s character in the 2000 comedy “Miss Congeniality.”

Jackman disclosed that he wasn’t particularly keen on securing the role, but his agent urged him to audition as a strategic move in a separate casting negotiation.

During the audition process, Jackman reminisced about his initial obscurity, mentioning, “No one knew X-Men yet.

I was a nobody.”

As he sat down to read lines alongside Sandra Bullock, Jackman was struck by her talent and agility, admitting, “Holy s***!

She’s amazing!

And so quick and fast.

I’m not even vaguely up to speed here.”

Despite putting in his best effort during the audition, Jackman felt overwhelmed by the lack of familiarity with the script, stating, “I was pedaling as fast as I could, but I didn’t know the script well enough.”

Reflecting on this unique experience of auditioning opposite another actor, Jackman expressed his surprise at Bullock’s involvement, noting, “It was the first time I’d tested [with another actor].

I was impressed that she was in there.

I didn’t expect her to be in there.

I’m guessing eight people she tested with.”

Ultimately, the role went to Benjamin Bratt, leaving Jackman disappointed.

However, fate had other plans for the aspiring actor, as just a few months later, he achieved widespread recognition with the release of the superhero hit “X-Men.”

Despite his subsequent success, Jackman admitted that the rejection for a role he wasn’t enthusiastic about was a humbling experience, recalling, “That’s humiliating when your agent says, ‘I don’t want you to get this job, but just go get it.’ And then you don’t get it.”
