Paul McCartney Denies Responsibility for Beatles Break-up

In a recent interview, Paul McCartney revealed that he was eager to continue performing with The Beatles when the band broke up in 1970, countering the popular belief that he was the one who initiated the split.

The iconic singer-songwriter pointed out that it was actually John Lennon who played a key role in the band’s dissolution during a preview of his appearance on the upcoming BBC Radio 4 interview series This Cultural Life, as reported by The Guardian.

Contrary to the rumors circulating at the time, McCartney emphasized that he did not push for the break-up and that he was deeply invested in the band and wanted it to persist.

He expressed, “This was my band, this was my job, this was my life, so I wanted it to continue.”

Reflecting on the misconceptions that he was responsible for ending The Beatles, McCartney addressed the media’s portrayal of him instigating the split, stating, “I had to live with that because that was what people saw.

All I could do is say, ‘No.’”

He further clarified, “I am not the person who instigated the split.

Oh no, no, no.

John walked into a room one day and said I am leaving the Beatles.

Is that instigating the split, or not?”

The final period of The Beatles’ existence will be spotlighted in an upcoming TV documentary directed by Peter Jackson titled Get Back, which is scheduled for release next month.

McCartney’s interview on BBC is slated to air on 23 October, followed by recordings of him reciting excerpts from his latest lyric book on BBC Sounds starting from 25 October.
