Jennifer Lawrence Reveals Why She Got “Really, Really Drunk” Before Kissing Chris Pratt On Set

In the 2016 science fiction film Passengers, Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt portray strangers who develop a romantic relationship after waking up prematurely from their hibernation pods on a spaceship traveling to a distant planet.

Specifically, the actors had to film a love scene for the movie, an experience that caused considerable anxiety for Lawrence.

She later confessed that she felt the need to consume alcohol before kissing Pratt during filming.

Moreover, the on-screen chemistry between Pratt and Lawrence sparked rumors and gossip in tabloids, leading Lawrence to address speculations about their real-life relationship.

Delve further into the details below to gain insight into this intriguing narrative.

Lawrence candidly admitted that she resorted to alcohol to ease the tension before their intimate scene.

During the 2015 Hollywood Reporter Actress Roundtable, Lawrence shared her thoughts on filming the pivotal love scene in Passengers.

She described it as her first genuine intimate scene, a situation that felt peculiar and unsettling to her.

When asked about her preparation for the scene, Lawrence disclosed, “I got really, really drunk.

But then that led to more anxiety when I got home because I was like, ‘What have I done?

I don’t know.’

And he was married.

And it was going to be my first time kissing a married man, and guilt is the worst feeling in your stomach.”

She further elaborated, expressing the emotional turmoil she experienced during the filming process.

Lawrence divulged, “I knew it was my job, but I couldn’t tell my stomach that.

So I called my mom, and I was like, ‘Will you just tell me it’s OK?’

It was just very vulnerable.

And you don’t know what’s too much.

You want to do it real, you want everything to be real, but then … That was the most vulnerable I’ve ever been.”

Additionally, Lawrence highlighted that the presence of numerous crew members heightened her stress levels during filming.

In an interview with E!

News, Lawrence emphasized that her anxiety was not directed towards Pratt, her co-star.

She clarified, “It was just nerve-racking.

It’s not even about your co-star, because Pratt is so wonderful and lovely … My nerves weren’t about him … It’s about everybody you work with.

It’s like all of the cameramen, all of the producers, the directors.

You come to work and all of the people that you work with are watching and listening, and you’re like, ‘Do I make sounds?’

My biggest fear was that somebody was going to, like, burst on set and be like, ‘Whoa whoa whoa!

Calm down!'”

Despite Lawrence’s apprehensions, Pratt described their bond as that of “fast friends.”

While Lawrence grappled with uncertainties about the intimate scene, Pratt reflected on their camaraderie during filming.

He shared with MTV, “As we were working together in Atlanta, we just became fast friends, and we bonded over a mutual love of Dumb and Dumber.

Just like jokes and life.”

Pratt acknowledged Lawrence’s concerns and endeavored to create a comfortable environment for her, even joining her in having a drink to alleviate the tension.

Rumors suggesting an affair between Lawrence and Pratt circulated following the filming of Passengers.

During the production of Passengers, Pratt was still married to Anna Faris.

Despite both Pratt and Lawrence publicly addressing the nature of their friendship, rumors persisted regarding a potential affair between the co-stars.

Speculation intensified after Pratt and Faris announced their separation post the release of Passengers in December 2016, with their divorce being confirmed in August 2017.

In February 2018, Lawrence dismissed the rumors of an affair with Pratt during an interview with the U.K.’s KISS.

She clarified, “I never had an affair with Chris Pratt on Passengers.

They got a divorce, like, two years later and everybody was like, ‘Jennifer Lawrence!’

And I was like, ‘What the… I’m in Montreal two years later.'”

Faris addressed the rumors in her memoir, shedding light on the impact of the unfounded speculations.

In her memoir titled Unqualified released in October 2017, Faris candidly discussed the toll the baseless rumors took on her.

She expressed, “I’d always taken pride in our relationship, and the coverage, even though it was just false rumors, was making me feel insecure.

Jennifer and I really are friendly, and she was apologetic even though she didn’t need to be, because she hadn’t done anything wrong.

She’s awesome, but of course it’s hurtful and also embarrassing when people are saying your husband is cheating on you—even if it’s patently untrue.”

Faris revealed the challenges of navigating such situations and learning to handle them with grace and resilience.
