Kate Beckinsale Opens Up About Pressure to Lose Weight for ‘Pearl Harbor’

Kate Beckinsale has disclosed that she faced pressure to shed pounds after landing her breakthrough role in the 2001 movie Pearl Harbor.

In a revealing cover story with Women’s Health, the 46-year-old actress expressed how the request to lose weight wasn’t a positive experience, highlighting the prevalent issue of women being body-shamed significantly more than men.

Starring as Evelyn Johnson alongside Ben Affleck in the film helmed by director Michael Bay, Beckinsale shared an anecdote where Affleck recounted his own experience of being asked to alter his appearance for a movie role, contrasting it with her situation of preserving her natural teeth.

Despite initially not prioritizing exercise until Bay suggested losing weight, Beckinsale now dedicates six days a week to working out, emphasizing the importance of physical activity for her overall mood and well-being.

Mindful of her diet, Beckinsale incorporates protein-rich foods like chicken or eggs before workouts and opts for nutritious salads featuring radishes, brussels sprouts, and safflower oil, or salmon for lunch.

She elaborated on her close connection to her body, acknowledging the physical manifestation of stress and the necessity of engaging in physical activities to alleviate it, likening herself to a horse needing a run around the paddock.
