Kevin Costner Faces Financial Strain Amid Child Support Battle

The actor revealed that his income has significantly decreased as he is no longer contractually tied to the popular TV series, Yellowstone.

In legal documents filed on June 28 and subsequently obtained by Us Weekly, Costner, 68, disclosed that his earnings for the upcoming year would be notably lower compared to the previous year.

He attributed this decline to his departure from Yellowstone, which had been a major source of income for him in the past.

Costner explained that he would now only receive compensation from the show based on contractual participation rights, rather than fixed amounts or episodic pay.

Despite his prominent role as John Dutton on Yellowstone since its debut in 2018, Costner mentioned that a recent report from the show’s producer indicated that he was not entitled to any participation money.

This assertion has been contested by Costner, who emphasized that he has yet to receive any compensation from the series in the current year.

The decision to conclude Yellowstone with its fifth season was officially confirmed by Paramount Network in May.

Speculation surrounding a potential rift between creator Taylor Sheridan and Costner had been circulating for some time, with reports suggesting that Costner desired to exit the show.

The extent of Costner’s involvement in the remaining episodes remains uncertain, although Sheridan denied rumors about a fatal storyline for Costner’s character.

Christine Baumgartner, who initiated divorce proceedings against Costner in May, claimed in recent legal documents that Costner earns around $1,537,000 monthly from his acting and directing ventures.

She highlighted their substantial monthly expenses, largely covered by Costner, which exceed $550,000.

Baumgartner voiced her financial struggles in maintaining their current lifestyle following the separation, particularly after Costner sought her eviction from their shared residence.

In response to Baumgartner’s request for $248,000 per month in child support, Costner contended that her assessment of his financial situation was incomplete.

He emphasized the variable nature of his income, subject to significant fluctuations depending on the projects he undertakes each year.

Costner deemed Baumgartner’s demand “astonishing” and asserted that it exceeded his capacity to fulfill without compromising his living expenses and business requirements.

Furthermore, Costner disclosed his proactive communication with Baumgartner regarding the anticipated financial challenges in 2023, especially in the absence of work on Yellowstone.

He clarified that he had warned her about the need to defer his salary for certain film projects to later dates.

Costner reiterated that he had elaborated on the forthcoming financial difficulties to Baumgartner, who purportedly acknowledged the situation.

As a counteroffer to Baumgartner’s substantial financial request, Costner proposed a monthly payment of $51,940 alongside covering all expenses related to the children’s health insurance, extracurricular activities, private schooling for their daughter Grace, and car expenditures for their son Cayden.

This proposal aimed to address the financial obligations towards their children while considering the broader financial constraints faced by both parties amidst the ongoing legal dispute.
