Margot Robbie Surprises Brad Pitt with Unscripted Kiss in ‘Babylon’

Margot Robbie, the 32-year-old actress known for her role in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, shared an interesting anecdote about her latest film, ‘Babylon’.

In the movie, she portrays Nellie LaRoy, a self-destructive silent film star set in the debauched Hollywood of the Roaring Twenties.

Robbie revealed that she added an unexpected twist to the storyline by improvising a kiss that was not originally scripted, as reported by aceshowbiz.com.

During an interview with W magazine, Robbie disclosed, “In ‘Babylon’, Nellie engages in various romantic encounters.

I spontaneously decided to include a kiss that wasn’t part of the script.

While filming a party scene, I approached Brad Pitt’s character and Katherine Waterston’s character, thinking, ‘Why not?’

Their reactions were quite surprised.

I’m uncertain if that particular moment made it to the final cut of the film.”

Contrary to common belief, it was Brad Pitt who initiated the idea of sharing a screen kiss with his co-star Robbie.

In an interview with Australian news show ‘The Project’, Pitt admitted, “No, it wasn’t scripted.

I suggested the kiss to be included.

I thought, when else would I have the chance to do this again?

And so we went ahead with it.

Interestingly, Nellie, Margot’s character, kisses a total of 15 people throughout the movie.”

While Pitt is reportedly in a relationship with jewellry executive Ines de Ramon post his divorce from Angelina Jolie in 2019, Robbie has been happily married to film producer Tom Ackerley since 2016.

Reflecting on the impromptu kiss, Robbie shared with E!

News in early December, “It wasn’t planned in the script, but I deliberated, when else would I ever get an opportunity to kiss Brad Pitt?

I took a leap of faith and went for it.

I suggested to Damien (Chazelle, the director) that Nellie would impulsively kiss Jack, Brad’s character.”

She recounted the exchange with Chazelle, stating, “Damien’s response was, ‘Hold on, you just want to kiss Brad Pitt.’

To which I replied, ‘So what?

This might be a once-in-a-lifetime chance.’

Damien acknowledged that the kiss suited the character, and I agreed that it added depth to the scene.”

Robbie expressed her delight in kissing Pitt, describing it as a memorable experience.

When asked to reshoot the kiss, she humorously recalled thinking, “Oh, great,” signaling her enthusiasm for the scene.

‘Babylon’ is portrayed as a narrative of grand aspirations and extravagant indulgence, chronicling the ascend and demise of multiple characters amidst an era marked by unrestrained decadence and moral decay in early Hollywood.
