Meghan Markle’s Discontent: A Look Inside Her Royal Living Quarters

Meghan Markle reportedly felt out of place and “shunted off” when she was asked to reside in Nottingham Cottage instead of Kensington Palace.

According to author Tom Quinn, the Duchess of Sussex may have initially been captivated by the glamour of royal life.

However, as she and Prince Harry settled into married life, living in the modest two-bedroom Nottingham Cottage on the Kensington Palace grounds left her feeling disappointed.

Affectionately nicknamed ‘Nott Cott’, this humble abode served as their first marital residence before their relocation to Frogmore Cottage and eventually to California.

Quinn expressed his belief on the Mirror’s ‘Pod Save The Queen’ podcast that Meghan likely found their initial home unimpressive, describing it as being relegated to a “little prefab”.

Nottingham Cottage had been Harry’s cozy dwelling since 2013, and Meghan joined him there shortly before their engagement.

Despite Quinn’s assertions, authors Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie present a different perspective in ‘Finding Freedom’.

They revealed that Meghan was content in Nott Cott, expressing joy at finally sharing the same address as her partner after enduring a long-distance relationship.

The couple’s stay at Nottingham Cottage was short-lived as they soon relocated to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of London life.

However, according to Quinn, even this move did not bring satisfaction, with Meghan reportedly feeling like she was living in desolation akin to the Russian Steppe.

In his book ‘Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir from Queen Mary to Meghan Markle’, Quinn further elaborated on Meghan’s discontent, highlighting her sense of isolation from everything she knew.

Eventually, the Sussexes made the decision to leave royal duties behind in 2020, finding refuge in a lavish estate in California where they now reside with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
