Mel Gibson and Winona Ryder’s Dispute Over Anti-Semitic Remarks

Mel Gibson and Winona Ryder have found themselves in a heated disagreement regarding allegations of anti-Semitism.

The actress disclosed that Gibson had insulted her by calling her an “oven dodger,” which she interpreted as a derogatory reference to her Jewish heritage.

In response, Gibson’s spokesperson vehemently denied Ryder’s accusations, labeling them as entirely false.

Despite Ryder reiterating the claims recently in an interview with The Sunday Times, Gibson’s camp stood firm on their stance.

Ryder, known for her role in Stranger Things, recounted the distressing incident as a vivid and painful memory.

She initially brought up the issue during an interview with GQ back in 2010, and revisited it during her latest discussion with The Sunday Times.

The 48-year-old actress narrated how Gibson allegedly made offensive remarks at a party they both attended, targeting her friend’s s**ual orientation and then turning to her Jewish background, uttering the discriminatory phrase.

Although Gibson reportedly attempted to apologize to Ryder later on, his representative contradicted her version of events, accusing her of falsifying both the comments and the subsequent apology.

In a further response, Ryder elaborated on the timeline of the encounter, placing it around 1996.

She expressed her belief in the concepts of redemption and forgiveness while emphasizing the importance of taking responsibility for one’s actions.

Ryder, whose father is Jewish, clarified that despite not being religious, she identifies with her Jewish heritage.

The contentious term used by Gibson has historical connotations related to the mass killings of Jews in Nazi concentration camps during World War Two.

This isn’t the first instance where Gibson has faced allegations of making anti-Semitic remarks.

Screenwriter Joe Eszterhas previously accused him of using similar language during their collaboration on a project centered around Jewish figure Judah Maccabee.

Gibson’s troubled history includes documented anti-Semitic statements made during a DUI arrest in 2006.

Despite refuting Eszterhas’s claims as fabrications, Gibson continues to face scrutiny over his past conduct.

In other news, Aardman Animations from the UK has partnered with Netflix for an upcoming sequel to Chicken Run.

While Gibson voiced a character in the original film, reports suggest he may not be involved in the sequel scheduled for production next year.

As speculations swirl regarding Gibson’s future projects, Netflix is yet to confirm his involvement in the Chicken Run sequel.

The ongoing controversy has sparked discussions about accountability and respect in the industry, shedding light on the complexities of addressing past transgressions.
