Mel Gibson’s Controversial Remarks: Winona Ryder’s Revelations

Winona Ryder has disclosed that Mel Gibson made derogatory and offensive comments targeting the LGBTQ+ community and Jewish people at a social gathering they both attended.

The actress shared the unsettling incident during an interview with The Sunday Times when questioned about encountering anti-semitism in her life.

The incident unfolded at a bustling party where Gibson, while smoking a cigar, directed hurtful remarks towards Ryder’s gay friend.

She recalled the moment when Gibson callously asked her friend, “Oh wait, am I gonna get Aids?”

Furthermore, Ryder recounted another distressing comment made by Gibson regarding Jews, where he callously remarked, “You’re not an oven dodger, are you?”

In the aftermath of the incident, Ryder mentioned that Gibson attempted to offer an apology.

However, there has been no response from Gibson’s representative regarding these allegations as of yet.

This is not the first time Gibson has been entangled in controversy involving anti-semitic slurs.

In 2006, he faced backlash after making anti-semitic comments during an arrest for suspected drunk driving.

Following this incident, Gibson issued an apology for his reprehensible remarks in a statement to The New York Times.

Reflecting on her personal encounters with anti-semitism, Ryder shared instances where people expressed surprise upon learning about her Jewish heritage.

She recounted a specific incident where a studio executive deemed her appearance as “too Jewish” for a particular role in a period film.

Delving deeper into her Jewish roots, Ryder expressed her connection to her heritage by stating that while she is not religious, she does identify with her Jewish background.

The actress revealed her deep fascination with the historical events surrounding the Holocaust, mentioning the impact it had on her family who perished in concentration camps.

Ryder’s upcoming project, “The Plot Against America,” based on Philip Roth’s novel, explores an alternate reality where the US succumbs to an anti-semitic regime.

The series, initially aired on HBO in the US between March and April 2020, is set to premiere on Sky Atlantic and Now TV in the UK starting July 14th.
