Nicole Kidman’s Struggle with Big Little Lies Intense Scenes

Nicole Kidman has openly discussed her experience working on Big Little Lies, shedding light on the challenges of portraying a complex character in the acclaimed series.

In the HBO show, Kidman portrayed Celeste Wright, a character embroiled in an abusive marriage with her husband, played by Alexander Skarsgård.

The duo shared numerous intense scenes throughout the series.

In an interview with W Magazine, Kidman revealed how filming n^de scenes made her feel “ashamed,” drawing parallels between her emotions and those of her character.

The actress admitted to feeling “deeply humiliated,” especially during the challenging s** scenes towards the end of the season.

Reflecting on her emotional state, Kidman shared, “When I would go home, I would feel ashamed.

And that’s the same emotions and the same feelings that Celeste was having, so we were very much parallel in the feelings, but I was willing to do that for the role because that’s what I felt was important for the role.”

Describing a particularly vulnerable moment on set, Kidman recalled, “I felt very exposed and vulnerable and deeply humiliated at times.

I mean, I remember lying on the floor in the bathroom at the very end when we were doing the scenes in episode seven, and I was lying on the floor and I just wouldn’t get up in-between takes.”

She further detailed an instance where the director, Jean-Marc, showed compassion by covering her with a towel as she lay on the ground in a state of distress.

Despite the challenging nature of the scenes, Kidman found solace in the authenticity and truthfulness they portrayed.

While acknowledging the emotional toll of the role, Kidman praised the script and the director’s ability to handle the sensitive material with care and precision.

The impactful portrayal by Kidman resonated with viewers, prompting discussions about the complexities of abusive relationships.

Many audience members expressed newfound empathy for individuals trapped in such situations after watching the series.

Although Big Little Lies received critical acclaim, actor Adam Scott highlighted the disparity in reviews, noting a dismissive tone from some male critics towards the female-led ensemble.

Author Liane Moriarty, whose book inspired the series, hinted at the possibility of a new season, revealing that HBO has shown interest in exploring fresh storylines beyond the existing source material.

Moriarty teased potential developments, indicating a willingness to continue the narrative in a new direction.
