Before gaining recognition with an Oscar nomination for her role in Gone Girl, Rosamund Pike reminisces about a disconcerting incident she faced as a budding actress attempting to make her mark in Hollywood.
Recalling her initial audition for a James Bond film, Pike, aged 39, shared her discomfort at being asked to strip down to her underwear during the audition process, as documented by The Independent and Amazon’s Audible Sessions.
At the age of 21, Pike eventually landed the part of Miranda Frost in the 2002 film Die Another Day.
However, she revealed that she did not comply with the request made during her audition.
Despite the pressure she faced, Pike exhibited remarkable resolve, firmly stating, “If they want to see me half-n^ked, they should hire me for the job.
I refused to disrobe during the audition, knowing that footage might circulate in Los Angeles and influence their decision.”
During the podcast interview, Pike disclosed that she had chosen to wear a dress gifted by her grandmother to the audition.
However, she was advised by a costume designer associated with the film to opt for attire more suited to the Bond aesthetic.
Acknowledging her lack of preparedness for the audition’s demands, Pike recounted, “He indicated that the dress I wore was lovely but not fitting for a Bond film, presenting me with minimalist clothing options that left me feeling out of place.”
Despite her apprehensions during the audition process, Pike emphasized that she felt entirely at ease once on set, expressing, “Looking back at my time on the Bond production, I am impressed by how Barbara Broccoli, the producer, had already implemented practices in line with the principles advocated by the #MeToo movement.”
