Reflecting on her time on set, Salma Hayek revealed that despite the support from her co-star Antonio Banderas and director Robert Rodriguez, it was her own internal struggles that caused her distress during the romantic sequences.
During a podcast conversation with hosts Dax Shepard and Monica Padman, Hayek delved into the challenges she faced while filming the love scenes, expressing her vulnerabilities to Shepard and Padman.
Recalling the onset of shooting, Hayek tearfully admitted, “As we were about to begin filming, I found myself in tears.”
She continued, “One of my biggest fears was Antonio — he was incredibly respectful and kind, and we remain close friends to this day — but he approached the scenes with such ease.
It was unsettling for me.
I broke down, and his response was, ‘Oh no, you’re upsetting me.’
I felt immense embarrassment at my emotional reaction.”
Hayek emphasized multiple times that both Rodriguez and Banderas provided unwavering support throughout the process, with Rodriguez ensuring she never felt pressured.
However, the impact of the moment left a lasting impression on her, describing it as a deeply unsettling experience that remains vivid in her memory.
