Sylvester Stallone’s Early Career: The Story Before ‘Rocky’

Six years prior to his breakthrough role in Rocky, Sylvester Stallone, a struggling 24-year-old actor, found himself in dire need of work and ended up starring in a low-budget adult film named Party at Kitty and Stud’s.

Despite rumors suggesting otherwise, the film is not the hardcore adult movie some believe it to be; rather, it is a dull and poorly executed softcore production.

In 1969, when p0rn0 was primarily an underground art form, Party at Kitty and Stud’s emerged into the mainstream following the success of Deep Throat.

Due to the limitations at the time, the creators opted for a softcore approach, depicting a story of a quarreling young couple hosting a mild S&M gathering.

However, the film lacks any sensuality, especially during the intimate scenes.

Initially disliking the script, Stallone felt compelled to take on the role as he was struggling to make ends meet, even resorting to sleeping in a bus station.

In a 1978 interview with Playboy, Stallone shared, “It was either do that movie or rob someone because I was at the end – at the very end – of my rope.” He agreed to work on the film for two days, earning $200, which helped him escape his precarious living situation.

Following its brief run in theaters, the movie quickly faded into obscurity until Stallone rose to stardom.

In an attempt to capitalize on Stallone’s fame, the film was reissued as Italian Stallion, a nod to Rocky’s moniker.

However, despite these efforts, the movie failed to attract a substantial audience and resurfaced intermittently over the years, sometimes with added explicit scenes featuring actors resembling Stallone.

A promotional trailer for the movie’s re-release features 1970s adult film director Gail Palmer, enticing viewers by claiming, “everything you ever wanted to see of Sylvester Stallone can be seen in this new X-rated movie.”
