Winona Ryder Accuses Mel Gibson of Making Anti-Semitic and Homophobic Comments

Actress Winona Ryder has recently revealed disturbing allegations against actor and filmmaker Mel Gibson, accusing him of making derogatory remarks targeting Jewish and LGBTQ communities.

The claims surfaced during an interview published by The Sunday Times in the U.K., where Ryder disclosed that Gibson, aged 64, made these offensive comments at a party.

However, she did not specify the exact time or audience to whom the remarks were directed.

In a detailed recollection, Ryder recounted an incident where Gibson, while smoking a cigar at a crowded gathering that included one of her gay friends, callously asked if he would contract AIDS.

Subsequently, a conversation about Jews ensued, during which Gibson allegedly made a deeply offensive remark, insinuating, “You’re not an oven dodger, are you?”

Reports from The Times suggest that Gibson attempted to offer an apology to Ryder at a later date.

Nevertheless, a statement provided to USA TODAY by Gibson’s representative, Alan Nierob, vehemently refuted Ryder’s accusations, labeling them as entirely false.

Nierob further asserted that Ryder had fabricated similar claims in the past and rejected Gibson’s attempts to address the matter.

Ryder responded to the rebuttal with a poignant statement, characterizing the encounter with Gibson as a distressing and vivid memory.

Expressing her belief in redemption and forgiveness, she emphasized her personal experience of being subjected to Gibson’s hurtful language alongside her friend Kevyn Aucoin in 1996.

Ryder underscored the importance of taking responsibility for one’s actions to foster mutual respect and understanding.

Notably, Gibson has a history of controversial behavior, notably making anti-Semitic remarks during a DUI arrest in Malibu, California, in 2006.

In her interview with The Times, Ryder candidly shared her Jewish heritage and the emotional significance it holds for her, given her family’s tragic history during the Holocaust.

Reflecting on instances of discrimination she faced in Hollywood, Ryder recounted an episode where she was deemed “too Jewish” for a particular role due to her appearance.

Additionally, she recalled a distressing moment during the filming of “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” where director Francis Ford Coppola resorted to verbal abuse in an attempt to evoke authentic emotions from the cast.

Despite the tumultuous experiences she has endured, Ryder noted that her relationship with Coppola has since improved.

The actress remains resilient in shedding light on the prevalence of discrimination and intolerance in the industry, advocating for accountability and respect among peers.

In a show of solidarity, former partners of Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder, and Vanessa Paradis have extended support to the actor amidst his ongoing legal battle.

Concurrently, the entertainment industry mourns the loss of Nanci Ryder, a prominent publicist and beloved figure among celebrities, who passed away at the age of 67 due to ALS.
