If there’s one thing we can all agree on regarding Margot Robbie, it’s that she’s brilliant at many things. She’s stunningly gorgeous, unexpectedly friendly, and always best dressed; she was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role this year for I, Tonya, a film she co-produced; and now, we’ve found she’s also a top-notch problem solver.
The I, Tonya star, who was dressed in a custom-designed Chanel Haute Couture gown with lavishly beaded straps around the bodice and arms, didn’t appear to mind on the red carpet. Later in the evening, though, things seemed to take a turn as one of the straps broke. Fortunately, Robbie was able to locate a sewing kit — and, according to People, took things into her own hands, completing the necessary repairs on the spot.
When she stitched her strap back into place, Robbie allegedly remarked, “Oh, ain’t got time for that!” don her laid-back style.
Even so, Robbie had the time of his life at the Academy Awards. Sarie Kessler, her mother, was her date, and they walked the red carpet together.
Tom Ackerley, her husband, was also there to encourage her and acted as a producer on their film.
She wasn’t the only A-lister who was having issues. After watching Robbie stitch up her straps, another contender Sally Hawkins admitted to her own dress woes, saying, “I’m losing shells,” as she pointed to the sequins on her gown.
“Whose kneecaps did Tonya Harding have to break to get this dream casting?” presenter Jimmy Kimmel quipped in his opening monologue, referring to Robbie.
Robbie, who is from Queensland’s Gold Coast, won her first Academy Award nomination this year for her role as disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding in the film I, Tonya.
Robbie has had a successful awards season, winning Best Actress for the part at both the Critics Choice Awards and the AACTAs, but missing out on the top honor.
Oh, and her Chanel gown took over 600 hours to manufacture and assemble, according to Karl Lagerfeld. It also took a few additional minutes to correct during the awards program.
