The 35-year-old artist reached a plea deal in Fishkill Town Court, avoiding jail time by agreeing to complete 65 hours of community service and pay a $250 fine.
The altercation occurred at a performance in June 2007 at a minor league baseball stadium near Poughkeepsie, where Akon forcefully removed a teenage boy from the stage.
Following this action, a concert attendee claimed to have suffered a concussion when the adolescent landed on her.
Eyewitnesses reported that someone from the audience hurled an object at Akon during the event held at Dutchess Stadium.
In response, after requesting the crowd’s assistance in identifying the offender, security personnel presented a 15-year-old boy to Akon.
Subsequently, the singer lifted the teen onto his shoulders and tossed him into the crowd, an act captured on video.
Following the plea agreement, Akon approached Anthony Smith, the now 16-year-old individual involved, shook his hand, and expressed apologies to both him and his parents.
Although Akon refrained from making any statements upon departure, his attorney, Andrea Zellan, released a written communication stating, “We are content that the matter has been settled, and Akon is eager to move past this regrettable incident.”
Initially facing charges of endangering the welfare of a minor and second-degree harassment, Akon, whose real name is Aliaune Thiam, managed to resolve the legal proceedings stemming from the New York occurrence.
Prior to this incident, Akon faced backlash for a separate incident where he was recorded engaging in provocative acts
