Amy Schumer Sheds Weight to Avoid Offending Viewers

Comedian Amy Schumer recently disclosed that she was advised to shed pounds for her role in the 2015 movie “Trainwreck,” highlighting the unequal treatment women face in the entertainment industry.

During an appearance on the U.K.’s “The Jonathan Ross Show,” which is set to air this Saturday, Schumer shared how she was cautioned about the impact of weighing over 140 pounds on screen in Hollywood.

While preparing for her part in “Trainwreck,” the star admitted to conforming to societal pressures to appear thin, although she emphasized that it would be a one-time occurrence.

“I did lose some weight for that role, but I have no intention of doing so again,” stated the 35-year-old actress.

Schumer has been vocal about finding strength and happiness in her body shape, expressing her confidence during the 2015 Glamour magazine’s Trailblazer of the Year award ceremony.

At the event, she proudly announced her current weight of around 160 pounds, asserting her self-assuredness in her appearance.

However, the actress faced criticism from the same magazine that recognized her achievements when they described her as plus-size in a published article.

In response, Schumer defended all body types, stating that she fluctuates between a size 6 and 8, emphasizing that the societal labeling of size 16 as plus-size creates unrealistic beauty standards.

Expressing her concern for the impact on young girls’ body image, Schumer took to social media to challenge the notion that her size constitutes plus-size, advocating for a broader acceptance of diverse body shapes and sizes.

Schumer’s experience sheds light on the persistent pressure within the entertainment industry for women to conform to narrow beauty standards, emphasizing the importance of body positivity and self-acceptance in a society that often scrutinizes appearances.
