Anna Kendrick Takes Stand Against Troubling Romantic Scene in Pitch Perfect 3

Anna Kendrick, the talented 32-year-old actress known for her role as Beca in the popular musical comedy series Pitch Perfect, recently revealed that she adamantly rejected a potential romantic storyline in Pitch Perfect 3, deeming it “problematic.”

In the film, Kendrick’s character, Beca, was initially scripted to have a romantic involvement with Guy Burnet’s character, music executive Theo.

However, Kendrick expressed her disapproval of this plotline due to the professional relationship between the two characters.

The actress firmly stated, “I declined the idea of the music executive being my romantic interest because I found it to be potentially problematic.”

Even when presented with an alternative version of the script where the characters would share a kiss at the end, Kendrick stood her ground and refused to portray the romantic scene.

Despite the rejection of the romantic subplot, Pitch Perfect 3 follows Beca’s journey as she is singled out as the standout member of the Bellas during their reunion for a USO tour and singing competition overseas.

Surprised by the decision to position Beca as a music star in the film instead of pursuing her dream of becoming a top music producer, Kendrick admitted that she had reservations about the storyline but ultimately committed to bringing the character arc to life on screen.

Kendrick also shared her amusement at receiving feedback from higher-ups to wear costumes that are “tighter,” “sexier,” or “show more skin,” emphasizing that the essence of the film lies beyond physical appearance and appeals to audiences through the diverse representation of misfits and women of different body types.

Throughout the production of Pitch Perfect 3, Kendrick’s dedication to upholding the integrity of her character and the overall message of the film shines through, showcasing her commitment to portraying authentic and empowering narratives on screen.
