In January 1988, amidst battling the detrimental effects of alcohol, cigarettes, and a recent stroke, Gardner approached British journalist Peter Evans to pen her memoirs, as reported by the New York Post.

The memoir, filled with Gardner’s intimate confessions from her deathbed, reveals startling truths about her past.

One shocking revelation details how her first husband, Mickey Rooney, engaged in multiple affairs while she was recuperating from an appendectomy in the hospital.

Additionally, Gardner’s marriage to bandleader Artie Shaw is portrayed in a negative light in the book, depicting Shaw as a domineering figure who consistently belittled her.

She also disclosed that Frank Sinatra, with whom she shared a deep connection, recognized their true love from their very first date.

Despite her involvement with Sinatra, Gardner pursued a passionate affair with the married Robert Mitchum, expressing her fervent affection for him during that time.

Her romantic entanglement extended to Howard Hughes, whom she described as a man she never truly loved, despite his financial support for her ailing mother, attributing his racist beliefs as a significant drawback.

In 1945, Gardner tied the knot with Artie Shaw, who had left his wife for her.

However, by this point, Gardner’s habits of smoking three packs of Winstons daily and excessive drinking had become pervasive.

She admitted to feeling intellectually inferior in Shaw’s presence, eventually taking an IQ test which yielded a high score.

Tragically, just a week after celebrating their
