George Lucas Chooses Education Over Inheritance for His Children

Renowned filmmaker George Lucas, despite being a billionaire, has opted not to leave his fortune to his children.

Instead, he has different intentions for his vast wealth.

Every parent desires to pave the way for their children to become prosperous and content individuals, yet opinions diverge on the most effective approach.

George Lucas, the mastermind behind Star Wars, aimed to ensure his offspring forged their own path to success by not providing them with an easy start financially.

The four children of George Lucas have a unique future ahead of them that does not involve inheriting a substantial portion of their father’s wealth.

Lucas, who managed to balance his illustrious filmmaking career with raising a family, adopted his first child, Amanda Lucas, in 1981 with his former wife, Marcia Lou Griffin, a film editor.

Following the dissolution of his marriage in 1983, George Lucas continued to expand his family as a single parent by adopting two more children, Katie Lucas in 1988 and Jett Lucas in 1993.

In a twist of fate, after his initial three children had reached adulthood, Lucas tied the knot with Mellody Hobson, the chairperson of DreamWorks Animation, in June 2013.

This union led to the birth of Lucas’ first biological child, Everest Hobson Lucas, through surrogacy in August 2013.

Rather than bequeathing his immense riches to his offspring, George Lucas has made a conscious decision to allocate a significant portion of his wealth towards supporting educational initiatives for other youngsters.

Upon selling Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012, generating profits of approximately $4.05 billion, George Lucas reiterated his commitment to philanthropic endeavors, particularly in the field of education.

Emphasizing the pivotal role education plays in shaping the future of humanity, Lucas stated, “I am donating the majority of my wealth to improving education.”

Subsequently, the George Lucas Educational Foundation, also known as Edutopia, was established to revolutionize K-12 education by enhancing teaching methodologies and disseminating knowledge to educators.

Although George Lucas’ children may not be direct beneficiaries of his financial legacy, they have thrived independently in their respective careers, having been immersed in the world of Star Wars from a young age.

Amanda, the eldest, pursued a career in MMA before transitioning to motherhood in 2014.

Katie, a talented writer, contributed to several episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Jett remains connected to the film industry and occasionally shares insights about his father in interviews.

Growing up within the realm of Star Wars has provided Lucas’ children with invaluable experiences and connections that transcend material wealth.

In retrospect, the experiences and relationships cultivated by George Lucas’ children throughout their upbringing in the Star Wars universe hold greater significance than a sizable inheritance.

By creating their own paths to success, independent of their father’s wealth, they are poised to lead fulfilling and prosperous lives enriched by their unique journey and connections within the entertainment industry.
