Meghan Markle’s Absence from Prince Harry’s Visit to King Charles Amid Health News

During Prince Harry’s recent visit to see his father, King Charles III, following the monarch’s cancer diagnosis announcement, royal experts suggest that Meghan Markle’s decision not to accompany him was a wise choice.

The Duke of Sussex had already faced delicate circumstances during his return to the U.K., and adding his wife to the equation would have only exacerbated the situation.

Harry’s trip to the U.K. was prompted by Buckingham Palace’s revelation of King Charles’ cancer diagnosis on February 5, 2024.

Swiftly responding to the news, Harry departed from their residence in Montecito, California, and arrived in England on February 6, 2024.

He visited Clarence House for a brief 45-minute meeting with his father before heading back to California the next day.

Royal author Robert Jobson commended Meghan’s decision to stay home with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, emphasizing the sensitivity of the situation for Prince Harry.

Jobson noted the precarious position Harry was in due to past controversies, such as his critical memoir and ensuing family tensions.

Expressing his opinion, Jobson highlighted that Meghan’s presence during the visit would have complicated matters further given her previous remarks about the royal family.

He indicated that her comments on issues like racism and mental health could have strained relationships within the family, making it challenging for everyone involved to reconcile.

The author pointed out the potential discomfort Harry might have faced if Meghan had joined him, especially when interacting with other family members like Kate Middleton and Queen Camilla.

Jobson concluded that Harry’s solo visit was likely a strategic move to navigate the complexities of familial dynamics and maintain a sense of unity despite past conflicts.

Since the public gathering at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022, Meghan has not been seen publicly with King Charles.

However, reports suggest that Harry and Meghan maintained communication with the king, particularly around significant events like his birthday in November 2023 and his recent hospitalization alongside the Princess of Wales in January 2024.
