Alyssa Milano’s Candid Revelation: The Story Behind Her Two Abortions in 1993

Actress and activist Alyssa Milano has candidly shared her experience of undergoing two abortions back in 1993.

At that time, Milano, who was in her twenties and fresh off the success of the TV series “Who’s the Boss?,” expressed concerns about her burgeoning career and the vast expanse of life lying ahead of her.

During an episode of her podcast “Sorry Not Sorry” on Monday, the 46-year-old actress disclosed, “I felt unprepared to take on the responsibility of motherhood.”

Despite being in a loving relationship and diligently using birth control as a precautionary measure, Milano found herself facing an unexpected pregnancy while also taking Accutane, a potent acne medication known to pose risks of birth defects.

“The news of my pregnancy was devastating.

Being brought up in the Catholic faith, I found myself grappling with conflicting beliefs.

I started recognizing that the faith I followed predominantly empowered men to dictate all decisions regarding what was deemed permissible or not.

With a blossoming career, aspirations, and intermittent battles with anxiety, I made the difficult choice to undergo an abortion,” Milano revealed.

Emphasizing the importance of autonomy in decision-making, she asserted, “The decision was mine to make, and it was undeniably the right one for me.

Although not easy, it was a necessary step, much like any other essential healthcare procedure.”

Continuing on her journey, Milano discovered she was pregnant again while still on birth control a few months later, prompting her to opt for a second abortion.

Presently, Milano is a mother to two children – a 7-year-old son named Milo and a 4-year-old daughter named Elizabella – with her spouse of a decade, CAA agent Dave Bugliari.

Reflecting on how her life would have been altered without those pivotal decisions, she expressed gratitude for her children and the opportunities she has had to advocate against oppression.

Milano underscored, “My life would have been drastically different without those choices.

I wouldn’t have my wonderful children, who bring immense joy and fulfillment to my life.

Nor would I have the platform or capacity to combat injustice fervently.”

Furthermore, she credited meeting her supportive husband, David, to those transformative moments.

Recalling the contrast between her life then and now, she acknowledged the significant personal growth and freedom she has attained over the years.

In response to recent anti-abortion legislations introduced in several states, Milano, an influential figure in the #MeToo movement, urged women to abstain from s**ual activity until they could reclaim ownership of their bodies.

Conclusively, Milano asserted, “The narratives behind women’s decisions to undergo abortions are personal and valid, belonging solely to us.

They are not subject to external scrutiny.”
