Mel Gibson Speaks Out on Controversial Domestic Violence Incident

Mel Gibson has finally addressed the domestic violence scandal that tarnished his reputation, referring to the release of heated personal phone conversations with his former girlfriend as a “deeply personal betrayal.”

The acclaimed director of “Braveheart” expressed his anguish over the leaked recordings, which captured him in moments of anger, profanity, and threats towards his then-partner, Russian musician Oksana Grigorieva.

Gibson described the ordeal as “extremely embarrassing and hurtful for my family.”

In an extensive interview with Hollywood reporter Allison Hope Weiner for Deadline Hollywood, Gibson vehemently denied mistreating individuals based on their gender, race, religion, or s**ual orientation.

Following his admission of no contest to a charge of assaulting Grigorieva during their tumultuous relationship in 2010, Gibson received a sentence of three years’ probation, mandatory counseling, and community service.

Reflecting on the leaked phone conversations from a year ago, Gibson emphasized that the recordings were manipulated, capturing just a fleeting moment of distress that did not reflect his true character or lifelong treatment of others.

Expressing disbelief at the breach of privacy, he questioned who would expect such a personal betrayal to be exposed without consent.

The repercussions of the scandal were severe for Gibson, leading to the departure of his long-time manager, delays in his film projects, and resistance from fellow actors in collaborative ventures.

Despite facing backlash for past offensive remarks and personal struggles, Gibson’s upcoming movie, “The Beaver,” is set for release in the United States on May 6, after being postponed due to the controversy.

Unfazed by potential judgment from audiences, Gibson asserted that his acting career was not a priority for him anymore.

He expressed a nonchalant attitude towards public opinion, stating that his current pursuits are driven by personal enjoyment rather than professional obligations.

Gibson revealed his involvement in a comedic film project characterized by adventure and romance, where he anticipates taking on a supporting role.

While some notable figures like Whoopi Goldberg and Jodie Foster stood by Gibson during the height of the Grigorieva scandal, he acknowledged the limited public support he received.

Reflecting on the challenging period, Gibson highlighted the true friends who remained loyal amidst the turmoil.
