Rosamund Pike Stands Firm: Refused to Remove Dress During ‘Die Another Day’ Audition

Rosamund Pike recently shared a disconcerting memory from her past, recalling an incident during her audition for the 2002 James Bond film, ‘Die Another Day,’ where she was asked to undress.

In an interview with Amazon’s Audible Sessions, Pike disclosed the uncomfortable request that was made when she was just 21 years old and relatively new to Hollywood, as reported by Hollywood Life.

During the audition, where she hoped to land a breakthrough role despite her limited credits at the time, Pike was taken aback by the unexpected demand placed upon her.

She vividly recounted being instructed to shed her attire and present herself in only her undergarments, a request that left her feeling uneasy.

Reflecting on the situation, Pike remarked, “They instructed me to remove my dress and appear in my lingerie.” Despite feeling perplexed and unsure of how to respond, she mustered the courage to challenge the directive, asserting that if they intended to see her in such a state, it should be in exchange for the role.

Feeling out of her element and grappling with conflicting emotions, Pike hesitated to comply with the demands, particularly since she had already undergone a costume change as per the designer’s instructions.

Initially attired in her grandmother’s silk gown, she was informed that the attire was unsuitable for the occasion and was subsequently furnished with a garment that she described as consisting of “three pieces of string.”

Realizing the stark contrast between her expectations and the reality of the industry, Pike confessed to feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about her next course of action.

Despite the pressure to conform and don the revealing outfit provided, she chose not to succumb to the request, emphasizing her desire to maintain her dignity and professional integrity.

While Pike adamantly refused to comply with the demand for disrobing, citing concerns over the potential repercussions on her reputation, her steadfast stance did not hinder her from ultimately securing the role in ‘Die Another Day’ alongside Pierce Brosnan.

The experience served as a testament to her resilience and unwavering principles, underscoring her commitment to upholding her values even in the face of adversity.

In contrast to the unsettling audition episode, Pike expressed gratitude for the supportive environment she encountered while filming the movie.

She highlighted the positive rapport she shared with the crew, particularly acknowledging the presence of female producer Barbara Broccoli, whose inclusive approach fostered a welcoming atmosphere on set.

Looking back on her involvement in the Bond franchise, Pike commended Broccoli’s progressive stance, noting her foresight in championing inclusivity and respect long before the #MeToo movement gained prominence.

Reflecting on her journey, Pike’s experience serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of standing firm in the face of challenges and staying true to one’s values.
