Queen Elizabeth II was reportedly incensed by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s assertion that they had received her approval for their daughter Princess Lilibet‘s name.
According to a royal aide cited in the upcoming biography “Charles III: New King.
New Court.
The Inside Story,” the late monarch was described as being “as angry as I’d ever seen her” following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex publicly stating they had obtained consent to use her childhood nickname for their second child, as per the Daily Mail.
Representatives for the couple did not provide an immediate response to Page Six’s request for comment.
This recent disclosure surfaces over two years after a palace insider informed the BBC that Queen Elizabeth, who passed away in September 2022, was never consulted about the naming of Lilibet before the child’s birth in June 2021.
BBC royal correspondent Jonny Dymond tweeted at the time, “Palace source tells BBC that the Queen was not asked by Meghan and Harry over the use of her childhood nickname; reports suggested Harry had sought permission from Queen to call newborn ‘Lilibet’; but Palace source says the Queen was ‘never asked.’”
Nevertheless, royal sources verified to Page Six that Harry, aged 39, did have a conversation with his grandmother after Markle, aged 42, delivered at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
However, another insider remarked, “It will have likely been a call saying that she’s arrived and we’d plan to name her after you — it’s not really something one can say no to.
I doubt they asked — more likely informed.”
Markle gave birth to Lilibet in Santa Barbara, California, in June 2021.
The Sussexes disclosed the arrival of their baby girl through a statement expressing gratitude for the global love and support received during this special time for their family.
The announcement read, “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet.
Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.”
Following the birth, Buckingham Palace issued a statement on behalf of the royal family celebrating Lili’s arrival.
A spokesperson conveyed, “The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been informed and are delighted with the news of the birth of a daughter for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”
Prince William and Kate Middleton also shared their joy through a tweet, saying, “We are all delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili.
Congratulations to Harry, Meghan, and Archie.”
Apart from Lilibet Diana, now 2, Harry and Markle are parents to son Prince Archie Harrison, 4, who was born in May 2019.
