Amanda Redman’s Revelations: Stripping Request in #MeToo Encounter

In a recent revelation, Amanda Redman shared her own encounter with the #MeToo movement when she was asked to strip during an audition, marking a distressing incident that unfolded 40 years ago.

Recalling the unsettling episode during an audition for a BBC production, the 62-year-old New Tricks actress recounted how she was confronted with a demand to shed her clothes.

“This was an audition for the BBC.

I walked in and the guy said: ‘Those purple velvet jeans look lovely on you, but I think they’d look better on the floor, would you take them off please?’” Redman expressed, revealing her dismay at the inappropriate request.

Resolute in her stance, Redman chose not to comply with the demeaning demand, reflecting on the emotional turmoil she experienced in response to the distressing situation.

“I didn’t take them off, obviously.

I burst into tears and I ran.

I remember exactly who it was, but I won’t be saying.

That was the norm then.

I was 22 as well – a baby, really,” she disclosed, shedding light on the prevalent culture of exploitation in the industry at the time.

Delving deeper into the issue of sexism within the realm of television, Redman conveyed the necessity for British audiences to embrace intimate scenes involving older actors on screen, emphasizing a disparity in societal attitudes between Britain and the United States.

Reflecting on her observations from the American series Madam Secretary, where mature leads engage in a healthy romantic portrayal, Redman remarked on the contrasting reception such depictions receive in British media.
