Why Queen Camilla’s Family Gave her the Nickname ‘Lorraine’ (King Charles Disapproved!)

Queen Camilla, before ascending to the throne, had a playful nickname bestowed upon her by her family.

She was called “Lorraine,” which was a clever play on the French word “La Reine,” meaning “Queen.”

While this nickname brought amusement to the Duchess of Cornwall, it didn’t sit well with Prince Charles, who is now King Charles, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

According to a friend mentioned in royal biographer Robert Hardman’s upcoming book, The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy (to be released on January 18), Queen Camilla always found the humor in her nickname, even if Prince Charles didn’t share the same sentiment.

The debate surrounding Camilla’s title lasted for almost two decades.

Initially, it was stated that she would be referred to as “HRH the Princess Consort” when Charles became king.

However, in a significant turn of events in February 2022, Queen Elizabeth publicly endorsed Camilla as the Queen Consort in her Platinum Jubilee message, thereby altering the narrative.

On the day of King Charles’ coronation, Buckingham Palace chose to refer to Camilla as “the Queen” instead of “Queen Consort,” solidifying her elevated status within the monarchy.

Hardman’s book also reveals that Camilla had to adjust to her new role gradually.

It took time for her to realize that references to “Her Majesty” were directed towards her.

Camilla’s younger sister, Annabel Elliot, shared her perspective on the matter.

She stated that while Camilla takes her role seriously, they were raised not to seek the limelight.

This upbringing has shaped Camilla’s character and personality.

Elliot further adds that for the rest of the family, it sometimes feels surreal to see Camilla as the Queen.

However, they are grateful that she still finds time for herself.

She is described as a wonderful mother and grandmother who is very hands-on.

The children within their extended family have grown up together, creating a strong bond.

In their private gatherings, Camilla can be herself and not solely defined by her royal position.

There is an element of irreverence within the family, with some playfully reminding Camilla that she is not the Queen to them.

These lighthearted interactions bring a sense of normalcy and balance to her life.

In conclusion, Queen Camilla’s family affectionately nicknamed her “Lorraine,” a playful nod to her future role as Queen.

While Prince Charles may not
