Meghan Markle and Prince Harry feel embarrassed after royal tour backlash

In a recent turn of events, reports have emerged that and are feeling a bit uneasy about the mixed reactions surrounding their tour of Colombia. This four-day excursion to South America earlier this month saw a blend of admiration from officials but also some notable criticism from observers.

According to sources close to the couple, the Sussexes were taken aback by the backlash they faced following their visit. Despite receiving a warm welcome and positive feedback during their time in Colombia, it seems the negative comments have left them feeling somewhat embarrassed. An insider revealed that both Harry and Meghan are eager to participate in more tours like this one, as these engagements remind them of the aspects of royal life they cherished the most.

However, the source pointed out that the couple is now grappling with feelings of discomfort due to the adverse reactions. They’ve encountered similar criticisms during their previous trip to Nigeria, which hasn’t helped their situation. Harry and Meghan remain committed to raising awareness about pressing issues in countries like Colombia, understanding that their visibility can shine a light on these matters. Yet, they’re also aware that successful tours could bolster their standing in Hollywood, benefiting their brand.

The controversy intensified when Colombian official Andres Escobar expressed discontent over the visit, implying that Vice President Francia Marquez’s invitation stemmed from their Netflix fame. Escobar raised concerns about the significant costs associated with the Sussexes’ security, estimating the expenses at around £1.5 million. He argued that given Colombia’s ongoing economic struggles, the funds spent on the visit could have been allocated to address pressing local needs instead.

Escobar lamented the dire circumstances many Colombians face, stating, “There are many, many Colombians who are hungry and have a lack of basic needs.” He criticized the decision to host the royal couple amid an economic crisis, emphasizing that the money used for their security could have been better utilized elsewhere.

On a more positive note, the Colombian Ministry of Equality and Equity, led by Vice President Marquez, praised the Sussexes’ visit, branding it a success. Reports from El Pais clarified that the couple funded their own travel expenses, with a spokesperson stating, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex financed their trip and that of their team with their own resources.”

While some of their activities were reportedly co-financed by international organizations, the Colombian government did not completely foot the bill for the trip. However, it was suggested that certain travel-related expenses may have received support from the administration of President Gustavo Petro, hinting at some level of state involvement.

The Ministry highlighted the visit as a chance for Colombians to connect with the Archewell Foundation, the charitable initiative established by Harry and Meghan. They expressed optimism that the tour would position Colombia as an attractive location for business investments and tourism opportunities.

It was emphasized that the visit allowed for important connections to be forged between the people of Colombia and the Archewell Foundation, with initiatives aimed at empowering women, preventing online violence among youth, and supporting peace-building efforts through arts and culture.

Despite facing criticism, the insider noted that the Sussexes are accustomed to dealing with public scrutiny and will continue to support each other through thick and thin. Nonetheless, a royal source pointed out that Harry is navigating a period of reflection as he approaches his 40th birthday.

This source remarked that Harry has been reminiscing about his past relationships, feeling a sense of sadness about the distance from his family and childhood friends. While he cherishes his life with Meghan and their children, he occasionally feels isolated and had once imagined celebrating his milestone birthday surrounded by loved ones. It’s clear that, despite their high-profile lives, the couple grapples with challenges that resonate on a personal level.
