In a candid interview with BBC’s Nada Tawfik on May 2, Prince Harry pulled back the curtain on the royal treatment of his wife, Meghan Markle, revealing shocking allegations surrounding their security arrangements.
Following this revealing discussion, Harry put pen to paper, sharing a pointed letter on his website, detailing his frustrations and experiences with the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC).
According to recent coverage by People Magazine, Harry claims that RAVEC—whose members include key aides from the royal establishment—initially denied his wife security protections when she became part of the royal family.
He emphasized that the Royal Household plays a vital role within RAVEC’s decision-making processes.
Harry’s letter stated, “In November 2017, before the Royal Household’s role on RAVEC became public knowledge, this secretive committee ruled that my wife shouldn’t receive security when joining the royal family.” He expressed his disbelief that the decision was only reversed after he pressured for the name of the person responsible for such a risky verdict.
Drawing deeper connections to personal pain, Harry remarked, “This is the same institution that preyed upon my mother, that actively campaigned for the removal of my family’s security, and that continues to foster animosity towards us.” As he aired these grievances, it became evident that he feels his family is under siege, both from the firm and the press.
In his letter, Harry accused RAVEC of neglecting their duty to conduct the essential annual risk assessment required for his family’s safety.
This disregard, he claims, stripped both him and Meghan of their security rights, effectively encouraging other governments to follow suit.
He wrote, “This reckless action knowingly put my family in jeopardy.
Life is fragile, and I’ve come to understand its value.”
The Duke of Sussex recounted his attempts to settle this matter quietly, even offering to foot the bill for adequate protection.
Yet he claimed his overtures were met with silence, and his legal efforts to challenge RAVEC’s refusal were unsuccessful.
His letter followed closely on the heels of a court decision that denied his appeal for state-funded security, leaving Harry, as he stated, “devastated.”
As he shared these sentiments, he reflected on the betrayal he feels from the royal family, who he thought would prioritize his safety.
Of deep concern is Harry’s assertion that his father, King Charles III, was complicit in revoking his family’s security, aiming, he suggests, to manipulate him and Meghan back into the fold of royal duties.
This revelation adds another layer to the ongoing narrative of estrangement between Harry and the royal circle.
Additionally, Harry vocalized his apprehensions about returning to the UK with Meghan and their children.
“I can’t envision a situation where I would bring my wife and kids back to the UK at this moment,” he expressed with an air of sadness.
The thought of his children not experiencing their father’s homeland looms heavily on him.
He continued, “It’s truly heartbreaking that I won’t be able to share my country with my children.”
Expressing his enduring love for the UK despite the turmoil, he lamented the sad reality that the circumstances have twisted his ties to his birthplace.
In a world where family loyalty is often expected, Harry’s revelations invite questions about the complexities and challenges tied to royal life.
His heartfelt letter is not just a narrative of personal experience but a broad commentary on the intersection of love, duty, and safety in the royal sphere.
